Dr. Jean Watson takes Healing Touch Level 1
Cynthia Hutchison, HTP Educational Program Director
On January 9th-10th, I taught a Healing Touch Level 1 class in Boulder, Colorado, my home town. Each year I offer two rounds of Level 1, 2 and 3, one early in each year and another in the autumn. My most recent Level 1 was very special for two reasons. The first is that I had five amazing instructors in training who were there for a Teaching Assistant experience.
The second reason this class was special was that we were honored to have the presence of Dr. Jean Watson, who is one of the most honored and esteemed holistic nurses on the planet! In the 1970s, when Jean was the Dean of Nursing at the University of Colorado in Denver, she was a primary founder of caring science and caring theory, which she has made her life's work. She has become a world-renowned and deeply beloved nursing consultant and nursing theorist in many countries around the world and is highly regarded for her helping to bring Caritas (caring) back to hospitals, health care facilities and other health related organizations. Many hospitals have earned Magnet status because of incorporating her caring science and theory into their organizations. Jean was friends with our founder, Janet Mentgen, and they lived fairly near each other in Colorado. Jean has been a keynote speaker at HTP conferences twice and endorses HTP. Jean has received Healing Touch a number of times and recently decided to take the Level 1 course with me.
Jean's presence was warmly welcomed by our students and TAs. It was fun having her as a special guest! Her sharing of wisdom was deeply appreciated. She loved experiencing the curriculum and treatment exchanges. Here is what she said in her evaluation, which she has permitted me to share with you here:
"This two-day Healing Touch program was impressively conducted at the highest level of professionalism and competence. The knowledge and experience of the instructor was outstanding, from evidence of standards to integrity of individual and group processes - a balance between intellectual and experiential, facilitating whole person learning. The course was healing for self and group, and provided a foundation for new models of health care for the public beyond conventional medicine. Thank you!" - Jean Watson
Healing Touch Program is honored to be affiliated and endorsed by Jean and her Watson Caring Science Institute (WCSI). We look forward to ongoing connections and collaborations based on our shared values and philosophies and theories of health care, nursing and energy medicine.
