Healing Touch Level 5

Description

Level 5 is focused on completion of assignments begun in Level 4, the intervening mentorship experience, integration into the community, the establishment of a practice, case management, and professional issues. Requirements for completion of the certification process will be discussed. A session of group healing is included on the second day of class. Level 5 meets during the day as well as in the evenings with breaks for lunch and dinner.

What will I do and learn at Level 5?

  • Experience how to evaluate the quality and completeness of case studies shared by Level 5 classmates
  • Experience how to evaluate the quality and completeness of homework shared by Level 5 classmates: documentation of sessions; reflective reports of educational experiences; reflective reports of receiving complementary modalities; reports of community HT activities and Healing Touch networking
  • Practice presenting your Healing Touch story, work and role through presentation of your professional profile notebook
  • How to continue your self-development as a Healing Touch Practitioner
  • How to further develop your Healing Touch Practice and move toward certification readiness, if desired
  • Discuss professional and clinical issues of private practice in Healing Touch
  • Explore how to deepen your Healing Touch skills through an energetic experience of group healing with your peers
  • Discuss the role of Healing Touch Research, the standards of care, code of ethics and scope of practice issues for a Healing Touch Practitioner
  • Develop an understanding of the Healing Touch Organizations and how they serve students, practitioners, instructors, recipients of HT, and the public at large

HTP Course Completion: All students attending Level 5 will receive the HTP Certificate of Completion for Level 5. Students with all assignments complete and satisfactory will also receive the Certificate of Healing Touch Program Course Completion, which entitles you to refer to yourself as a Healing Touch Practitioner. Students with incomplete or unsatisfactory homework will have the opportunity to contract with the Level 5 instructor for completion of assignments approved by a designated instructor with a negotiated date. In this case, the student will receive the Course Completion Certificate in the mail once the assignments are completed and approved.

Registration: You can register on line by going to the class you want to attend and clicking "Register Now". You can also call the office at (303) 989-0581. You will receive a Confirmation Letter outlining specifics for the class, directions to the retreat center, and more after your registration is received.

Times: Level 5 normally starts on Thursday evening at approximately 2:00 and ends 2:30 on Sunday. (Some classes start Wednesday and end on Saturday.) Please check your confirmation letter for specific class dates and check in times as times may vary slightly depending upon the location. Please plan on attending all sessions in order to receive the Certificate of Completion for Level 4. Level 4 meets during the day as well as in the evenings with breaks lunch and dinner.

Retreat Setting: Levels 4 and 5 are held in a retreat setting to further enhance the interaction, learning and sharing between students, mentors and instructors. Students are required to stay at the retreat center. Exceptions may be made in extenuating circumstances, but must be pre-approved. Please email classes@HealingTouchProgram.com.

Room and Board: Room and Board prices vary depending upon the retreat center. Please call the HTP office at 303-989-0581 or see your confirmation letter for the specific class for the cost. Payment for Room and Board is due two weeks before the beginning of the class.

Meals: Meals are provided by the retreat center unless otherwise stated. If you have special dietary needs, please notify Carolyn@HealingTouchProgram.com.

Needs for the Workshop: If you own a massage table and can bring one, please call Carolyn at (303) 989-0581 to tell her that you will provide a table. You may want to bring music, a stereo, extra pillows, and blankets as well. This pertains primarily to people that are driving to the workshop. Bring the following assignments, based on Level 5 homework requirements as described in the Level 4/5 syllabus:

    1. Professional Profile Notebook

    2. 100 Documented Sessions* (sessions starting from Level 4)

    3. Reports of ten complementary healing modalities received (since taking Level 4)

    4. A copy of your Professional Resume including all Healing Touch classes (to be collected in class)

    5. Your progress report of the mentorship experience

    6. Personal Reflective Reports: A minimum of six reflective reports of books representing the six areas of required reading if you attended Level 4 before 2007. (Note: As of January 2007, Level 4 students were told to bring seven reflective reports to Level 5 because the category of Ethics was added as of January 2007). It is highly recommended that you choose to write reports on books requesting required reading for previous HT classes, i.e.: Healing Touch, A Guidebook for Practitioners, 2nd Edition, by Dorothea Hover-Kramer, Joy's Way, by Brugh Joy, Hands of Light and Light Emerging by Barbara Brennan. The recommended text for the Ethics category is Creating Right Relationships: A Practical Guide to Ethics in Energy Therapies by Dorothea Hover-Kramer and Midge Murphy. There are several other ethics books listed on the booklist; however, Creating Right Relationships is the one that is specific to Energy Therapies and HT Practice. Students who attended Level 4 before January 2007 and attend Level 5 during 2008 are encouraged (though not currently required) to read an ethics book in order to provide an adequate background education in professional ethics.

7/8. A brief reflective report of at least one Healing Touch Community Project you have participated in since Level 4 and your networking / support group activity.

    9. Four copies of your draft case study (8-10 pages double spaced). All students will present their case studies in small groups and some will present to the entire Level 5 class.

    10. If you are planning to apply for certification, it is wise to determine if you and your mentor are up-to-date on current certification requirements in order to avoid confusion at Level 5. The current HT Certification Packet application is to be used for anyone applying between now and 2008 for HTCP (Healing Touch Certified Practitioner) status. You will receive a copy of this packet in class; however, if you want/need a packet before then, go to: Practitioner Certification Application HTP-933.

Not everyone who plans to attend Level 5 intends to apply for practitioner certification status. Students planning to apply for HT Practitioner Certification after attending Level 5 are wise to compare Level 5 course completion requirements with the HT Practitioner Certification application requirements as there are some significant differences between them. Clarifying the differences will guide the student on how best to prepare for each and will prevent confusion and time management issues. If you have questions regarding this, please refer to your Level 4/5 Notebook first; then contact Franny@HealingTouchProgram.com.

In addition, bring your Level 1, 2 and 3 Syllabi / Notebooks, the Healing Touch Guidebook (purple Delmar text) and Level 4/5 notebook as references. If you do not have the level 4/5 Notebook for some reason, please let the HTP office know at least 2 weeks prior to workshop so that we can mail extra notebooks to the local coordinator.

*Notes On Organizing Your 100 documented Sessions for Level 5:
Your 100 sessions should be organized in a reader friendly way and you may choose how to do this. At this time, there is no "one way" to do this. Please identify ten (10) documented sessions that you feel represent your current level of practice and documentation. Place them at the beginning of your 100 sessions and clearly identify them as "10 Representative Sessions". They should include a varied range of techniques.

Be sure you have sufficient representation of intake interviews among your sessions so that your instructor will be confident that you can adequately administer and document the HT intake interview process as part of case management. We request a minimum of 15 intakes, which will be a requirement beginning 2008.

Ideas for organization:
You may want to organize the remaining sessions based on separating client multiple sessions (2 or more sessions) from clients seen for only one session. (Multiple sessions per individual clients can be placed in sequential order). You can further organize your sessions by separating and identifying shorter sessions (15-30 minutes) from full-length sessions (45 minutes to 1 hour or longer). It is recommended that students indicate the approximate length of session on each sheet to help the Level 5 instructor base her judgment of documentation skills knowing if it was a full length or abbreviated session. The more reader-friendly your homework is organized, the easier the task for the instructor/readers. This is much appreciated as a time-saver.

*Note: Students attending Level 4 as of 2007 will be required to have approximately 70-80 of their 100 sessions be full-length sessions (approximately 45 to 60 minutes) and no more than 20 - 30 short sessions (approximately 15 to 30 minutes). All sessions may be full length sessions.

Documented sessions should reflect the 10 essential elements of the HT Sequence so that the Instructor can determine the completeness and accurateness of charting skills. The Instructor does not expect perfection, but growth since Level 4 and basic/adequate documentation skills. Students can use any documentation form s/he prefers, whether it be an HTP form or other.

Inclusion of rationale for selection of each technique in your documentation is helpful, especially if your choice of technique is not an obvious choice based on the curriculum recommendations. Using methods that do not have an apparently rationale make the student subject to questioning by the Level 5 reader to assure a student's correct understanding of the use of the techniques.

In a similar vein, if your selections of technique order/sequences does not indicate to the reader your understanding for the reason(s) for alternate variations, please give a rationale for your choices. For example, the order of administering Level 2 back work or Level 3 Chelation/full spectrum healing should demonstrate the curriculum-based order or a rationale for altering the usual sequence. Abbreviations and codes on documentation should be briefly explained (ex: names of techniques, pendulum and hand scan readings, etcetera). Your sessions should represent all of the techniques taught in Levels 1 - 4 to demonstrate your familiarity with all levels of curriculum. The HT Techniques Worksheet is recommended for easier tracking of your treatment selections, but is not required at this time. It can be found at http://www.healingtouchprogram.com/student/Techniques.pdf and is used to track how many times you used each technique and to help you identify whether or not you feel confident with each technique. The worksheet should be attached to the beginning of your 100 sessions.

The HT Technique Worksheet may be used in a creative way so as to assist the students, mentor and Level 5 reader to determine adequate practice of each of the methods taught in the HT Program.

There may be some techniques that you may not have had an opportunity to practice (ex: Head Trauma, Lymph Drain). These should still be studied, reviewed and practiced on willing recipients, even if they in fact do not "need" a specific technique, so that students coming into Level 5 can feel self-confident on administrating all program methods. This is likened to practicing a Migraine headache HT technique in the HT classroom on someone who does not have a migraine headache. The practice does not harm the recipient; the recipient still receives the benefit of healing energy that will go to where it is needed. The student then has the benefit of reviewing and practicing the technique so that it can be applied with confidence when needed in an actual migraine headache client session.

Only five long-distance or animal sessions are allowed among the 100 sessions.

All documentation must be neat and readable. Names of clients need not be covered as level 5 is considered professional clinical supervision and evaluation. Names can be covered or coded if desired by the student.
