Healing Touch Shadowcliff Retreat
A Soulful Exploration of Healing Touch: May 31- June 3rd 2012
By Jerry Becker, HTCP/I, QM, CAE

In the mountains of Colorado on the Southwest edge of Rocky Mountain National Park, on a cliff overlooking Grand Lake, alongside a cascading river in a beautiful facility I attended the Healing Touch Shadowcliff Retreat focusing on the Spirituality in Healing Touch. It is a sacred special place in beautiful nature where Janet Mentgen first envisioned the Healing Touch Program.

It was an amazing experience of community gathering together, sharing, caring, healing and restoring. There were 46 people in attendance at the retreat, embodying more than 750 years of healing experience.

From Cynthia Hutchison and Debra Agee we learned Eurhythmy – sacred movement that energizes the body by gently, smoothly and purposefully raising our energetic vibration and aligning thinking, feeling and willing It fits very well with the ideals and understanding of the energetics of the human body as taught by Healing Touch Program.

Those who wished participated in a fantastic research project designed and conducted by Dr. Monica Nebauer, RN PhD., HTCP/I, from Australia. The study gathered data on experiences of spiritual development by Healing Touch practitioners. She utilized small focus groups and deep guided discussion of each individual’s understanding of spirituality in our practice and our lives. To me this was deeply rewarding - opening my horizons and broadening my perspective from the insights and understandings of my fellow practitioners I will always honor the memory and their wisdom. I eagerly await Dr. Nebauer’s results!

We had great healing opportunities, learned some group healing techniques, had lots of story time, heard history of the “early days” of the Healing Touch Program. The relating of a quote of Janet Mentgen’s “I’m thinking of Good Times” led to laughter. There was personal sharing of experiences and growing in the energy and practice. We had excellent food, laughed a lot, shared a profound or fond tear here and there, sat on rocks, enjoyed the mountains, the moon and the stars, the beauty of nature with wonderful vistas and scenery. There was time for healing, hiking, walking, horseback riding, paddle boating, reading, meditating or just sitting and chatting, catching up and sharing with like-minded people talking about what most interests them – Healing Touch! A scene that I will always remember is Lisa Mentgen-Gordon standing up to speak and a humming bird was perched on the tree just outside the window the whole time she spoke.

The collective wisdom and years in the art of healing within the group gathered in the chapel at Shadowcliff was amazing. It was an honor to be included among such a committed, compassionate, collection of Heart Centered unconditional loving people.

It was a wonderful retreat and I am looking forward to next year’s adventure!
