Along with other related modalities, Healing Touch Program is now a vital part of Mission Hospital‘s Integrative Health Care Program. Healing Touch was chosen because it is the only energy program that is standardized to satisfy the Joint Commission (Regulatory Board for Hospitals). The director and staff of Integrative Health Care are Board Certified Holistic Nurses. The Medical Director for the program is Dr. Danna Park.  Under Director Lourdes Lorenz, Mission’s Integrative Health Care Program is designed to:

1. Educate and support nurses and staff through retreats, presentations, and classes.

2. Educate the public through lectures and introductory classes.

3. Implement therapies within the hospital system through Pilot Programs and “on-call” services.

A Healing, Caring Circle for Seniors

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program April 2009  issue.  A Healing, Caring Circle for Seniors
by Bernardine A. Clarke “Bernie,” MS, RN, HTCP/I, FAAN

It’s Tuesday afternoon about three-fifteen and we begin to gather in a large room with chairs forming a circle. By three-thirty there are 10 to 20 seniors from our retirement community present plus some Healing Touch people from the wider community and we begin by sharing our current joys and concerns—a new grandchild, a 60th wedding anniversary, an aching knee or shoulder, or an upcoming surgery. As we settle I lower the lights, start meditative music and we begin by balancing the energy field and centers, then extending our hand toward the center of the circle to send healing energy to those named in word or in thought. By this time it is about three-forty-five and we focus on bringing healing energy to our concerns of the day. b2ap3_thumbnail_A_Healing_Circle_For_Seniors_April_2009_EM.jpg

Our group is fluid and often we have a new member who comes with a friend or on their own to see what we are about. Emphasis
after meditation is focused on energy treatments related to what the individuals bring to the circle. Physical aches and pains usually respond to voice guided Basic Healing Touch Sequence using Magnetic Clearing, Ultrasound, and/or Pain Drain. Mind Clearing is often selected if the entire group seems upset by some recent happening such as 911 which occurred on a Tuesday
morning in 2001. That day we all arrived in great stress, concerned about what was to those happening those involved.

Using Healing Touch with Trauma

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program February 2009.  Greetings from Cynthia Hutchison Healing Touch Program Director

Janet Mentgen introduced the Trauma Release Technique to the Healing Touch Program in 1996. This technique was a radical departure from traditional cognitive, behavioral and emotional cathartic therapies and — it worked. Janet didn’t know how it worked. All she knew was that it eliminated long-term symptoms of traumatic stress in over 100 people who had suffered from traumatic injuries. She would tell us to just do the work and that the science behind it would follow. She was right. Discoveries in neurophysiology research have recently validated this powerful technique.

Ecology of Mind

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program February Issue  Ecology of Mind by Corinne Crockett, RN, Grad.Diploma Nursing, CHTP, RSI Interim Practitioner

“My Dad died of high blood pressure at 50, I know I am next.” How many times have you heard someone tell you that the health concerns of their elders would surely be visited
upon them? It may come as a relief and asurprise to know that the relatively new science
of epigenetics reveals that belief systems have more to do with our health than does our genetics.

Six Pillars of Enery Medicine

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program February Issue  Six Pillars of Energy Medicine by Donna Eden and David Feinstein, Ph.D.

In the ten years since the publication of our first book together, Energy Medicine, we have seen the world begin to re-embrace the ancient art of energy healing. More than three hundred practitioners have completed our two-year Certification Program in the past three years and tens of thousands of individuals have taken classes from us this past decade. What was seen as strange and woo-woo is becoming the respected cutting edge of health care — and for good reason.

Energy Medicine (EM) is accurate, efficient, and cost-effective. It is based on a different model than conventional medicine, which focuses on the biochemistry of cells, tissue, and organs.

Energetic Patterns Found in Persons in Recovery from Alcoholism

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program Issue October 2008

Alcoholism, a life-threatening disease is no respecter of race, sex, religion, professional or financial status. Persons suffering from alcoholism are in need of compassion and caring in their search for self-healing and wholeness in mind, body and spirit. b2ap3_thumbnail_Energy_Patterns_Oct_2008.jpg

My past experience as a counseling intern in an out-patient treatment center and, presently, in my community based Healing Touch practice confirms the reality that persons suffering from addictions are indeed searching for wholeness. Statements shared by clients post Healing Touch treatment help to validate the reality of their search:

“I always feel stress and I need to learn how to relax.”

“I feel like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon”

“I only want peace in my life.”

“I can see my self back with my family.”

“I want to feel better about myself and find out who I am.”

Relative to persons suffering from drug and alcohol addictions, Caroline Myss notes that, “the human experience, except for occasional pockets of enlightenment, is diminished in dignity. People in countless numbers are lost in the very fabric of their lives.” (Shealy N. & Myss, C., 1988). The results of a published research study revealed that HT significantly reduced pain and emotional distress and led to patients feeling happier, more satisfied and less tense. (DuBrey, R., 2006)
