The Global Coherence Initiative

As many people are saying, humanity has reached a critical juncture in the early years of the 21st century and we are on the threshold of enormous social, spiritual and cultural changes. Our material-driven world has resulted in great discord, economic instability, war, violence, crime, overpopulation, food and water shortages, and environmental pollution and destruction.

For the past two decades we have been transitioning out of nationally-based industrial societies and cultures into an interconnected, information-based global economy and to some extent a global society in which cultures with long-held values and customs often collide.b2ap3_thumbnail_Global_EM_1.jpg

Evidence suggests this transition will continue to be difficult. The global financial crisis that began in 2008 and is still being felt — sent shock waves around the world. It is clear that much of the human race remains stuck in a cycle of social and economic oppression, warfare, cultural intolerance and disregard for the environment.

Breaking this cycle is the greatest challenge our species has ever faced and requires a shift in human consciousness. The Global Coherence Initiative (GCI) founded in the summer of 2008 by the nonprofit Institute of HeartMath,www.heartmath.org, has brought together noted scientists, researchers and leaders in many fields, and is working with and alongside people from every corner of the world to help facilitate this shift. The Global Coherence Initiative is a science-based initiative to unite millions of people in heart-focused care and intention to shift global consciousness from instability and discord to balance, cooperation and enduring peace.

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program December 09′/January 10′ Issue.  Greetings from Cynthia Hutchison; Healing Touch Program Director

 Dear Readers,

December 2009 marks the close of our 20th Anniversary year. We are now beginning our 21st year, a new decade of organizational maturity. Healing Touch has received worldwide b2ap3_thumbnail_Cynthia_h_09_10_EM.jpgprofessional recognition for its contributions to body-mind-spirit health and well being accomplished through the heart-centered practices of thousands of HT practitioners, students and instructors. Consumers are asking for it; health care facilities are realizing how HT and related holistic-integrative practices enhance the health and happiness of clients, patients and staff; and practitioners of HT testify to the benefits of practice in terms of personal and professional inner development and fulfillment. Scientists who research HT, energy medicine and consciousness/intentionality are validating the reality and benefits of energy medicine practices. We are living in exciting times!

In honor of bringing HTP’s 20th anniversary celebration to a close, we would like to share with you a list of an overview of some of the accomplishments achieved over the years…

Along with other related modalities, Healing Touch Program is now a vital part of Mission Hospital‘s Integrative Health Care Program. Healing Touch was chosen because it is the only energy program that is standardized to satisfy the Joint Commission (Regulatory Board for Hospitals). The director and staff of Integrative Health Care are Board Certified Holistic Nurses. The Medical Director for the program is Dr. Danna Park.  Under Director Lourdes Lorenz, Mission’s Integrative Health Care Program is designed to:

1. Educate and support nurses and staff through retreats, presentations, and classes.

2. Educate the public through lectures and introductory classes.

3. Implement therapies within the hospital system through Pilot Programs and “on-call” services.

A Healing, Caring Circle for Seniors

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program April 2009  issue.  A Healing, Caring Circle for Seniors
by Bernardine A. Clarke “Bernie,” MS, RN, HTCP/I, FAAN

It’s Tuesday afternoon about three-fifteen and we begin to gather in a large room with chairs forming a circle. By three-thirty there are 10 to 20 seniors from our retirement community present plus some Healing Touch people from the wider community and we begin by sharing our current joys and concerns—a new grandchild, a 60th wedding anniversary, an aching knee or shoulder, or an upcoming surgery. As we settle I lower the lights, start meditative music and we begin by balancing the energy field and centers, then extending our hand toward the center of the circle to send healing energy to those named in word or in thought. By this time it is about three-forty-five and we focus on bringing healing energy to our concerns of the day. b2ap3_thumbnail_A_Healing_Circle_For_Seniors_April_2009_EM.jpg

Our group is fluid and often we have a new member who comes with a friend or on their own to see what we are about. Emphasis
after meditation is focused on energy treatments related to what the individuals bring to the circle. Physical aches and pains usually respond to voice guided Basic Healing Touch Sequence using Magnetic Clearing, Ultrasound, and/or Pain Drain. Mind Clearing is often selected if the entire group seems upset by some recent happening such as 911 which occurred on a Tuesday
morning in 2001. That day we all arrived in great stress, concerned about what was to those happening those involved.

Magic Hands

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program March Issue  Magic Hands by RIta Kluny

It is hard to believe that over twenty years ago, I was sitting in the back seat of a car when my three-year old nephew started screaming that he had been stung by a bee. b2ap3_thumbnail_Magic_Hands_EM_2009_20130912-151453_1.jpg  I took Ben’s hand and began doing Magnetic Passes: Hands in Motion – soothing him with a calm voice, telling him that this would take away the pain, the sting and the fear. Moments later, he stopped crying. In an excited voice, he exclaimed, “MOMMY! Aunt Rita has magic hands!

And so Magic Hands it was.

My Best Teachers Come in all Ages, Shapes and Stages

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program March Issue My Best Teachers Come in all Ages, Shapes and Stages by Walle Adams-Gerdts, RN, BA, HTCP

My teachers don’t have formal degreesin education. They don’t have classrooms of 25 or so students nor do they assign homework or group projects. They don’t drive to and from work and they certainly don’t have time to serve on committees. My teachers are the patients at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

Over the past year, I have had the incredible opportunity to learn from these wise and wonder-filled young people – and it all started with the dream of sharing Healing Touch.

Featured Healing Touch Certified Practitioner

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program February Issue Featured Healing Touch Certified Practitionerby Barb Dahl, BSN, RN, HTCP/I

What brought you to Healing Touch? We listen to the stories at every workshop and marvel at the variety of paths that have led us to “the work.” When the workshops come to an end with Level 5 we “lose touch” with many of our classmates and the rest of their stories – and especially lose touch with what follows after certification. Certifi cation, of course, is only the beginning. Healing Touch changes our lives and together we are changing the world. This column will present profiles of these agents of change. The San Diego Stand Down

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program February Issue  The San Diego Stand Down by Carole Sarian, LMT, HTCP Patricia Fredericks Donna Magden Cathyrose Johnson, Minister, HTPA Marilyn Duba, Level 1 Student; Barbara Lester Victoria Lea Shirley Smalley Suzanne Weeks, HTP; Linda Huckabee

b2ap3_thumbnail_Stand_Down_Image.jpgStand Downs are one to three day events offered - throughout the year in cities all across the country – to provide services to homeless veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as housing, employment and substance abuse treatment. Stand Downs are collaborative events, coordinated between local VAs, other government agencies, and community agencies who serve the homeless.

The first Stand Down was organized in San Diego in 1988. Eight years ago, Healing Touch was brought to the San Diego Stand Down by Joan Tweed, a pioneering woman who brought with her a small tent, a couple of tables and a big heart. Since that time, San Diego has consistently risen to the occasion providing an ever-increasing number of volunteers from a range of healing modalities resulting in the Alternative and Integrative Medicine tent being the largest tent at the Stand Down – surpassing the Medical Tent.

Based on this, I am optimistic that the presence of Healing Touch at every Stand Down throughout the country will be a reality. It is my hope that Alternative and Integrative Medicine tents will be available at every Stand Down and that Healing Touch will be a major contributor.

I am so pleased that you have this opportunity to read this article authored by several HTP instructors and practitioners in the various provinces of Canada. Last November, I had the privilege of teaching a large Advanced Practice 1 and 2 weekend in Calgary. In 2008-2009, I will have the honor of being in Canada four times for classes, including instructor training andb2ap3_thumbnail_HT_In_Canada_Flag.jpg the Canadian Conference/HTP Instructor meeting in April (see the ad!). Janet Mentgen brought HTP classes to Canada in her first year of inaugurating the official curriculum in the United States,so Canada is also helping us celebrate HTP's 20th Anniversary year of Janet's original curriculum on the entire North American continent! Cynthia Hutchison, Healing Touch Program Director

Healing Touch Snapshots from Canada Healing Touch is alive and well and growing like a prairie fire across Canada. It continues to be a life-giving and life-changing experience for those who enroll in HT courses and for those who experience it "on the table" (or in a chair, or in bed, or at the scene of an accident). In this article several people from central and western Canada offer snapshots of what is happening as they "do the work" of Healing Touch in their communities and regions.
