Dear Readers,

Welcome to the April issue of Energy Magazine! This issue’s theme is about the PRACTICE of HT. We have a b2ap3_thumbnail_Cynthia_h_09_10_EM.jpgrich variety of articles related to this topic, including how HTP is moving into the future at a higher professional level in order to open more doors for our practitioners in the world of healthcare. You won’t want to miss reading about national accreditation; our new mentorship course and Qualified Mentor policy; how upper level HTP courses support the student in her/his professional growth; HTP’s listing of practitioner tools; our Smart Start social networking program; news about the growing benefits of our HT Professional Association; developing the Ying Yang of your practice; and the importance of self care for the practitioner.

In reflecting on my own practice of Healing Touch, I am reminded of the personal and spiritual blessings I feel I receive during what Jean Watson RN, PhD, refers to as the “caring moment”. In my own words, this is when two peoples’ heart energies come together in an experience of sacred space which opens the doors toward mind-body-spirit healing of both practitioner and client.

Over the last week in practicing HT, two of my sessions took place in hospitals – one for a young, chronically ill regular client with cerebral palsy, and the other for someone who just exited the recovery room from knee surgery. I provided another treatment in my home office for someone with a fresh “broken” heart related to a separating romantic relationship. The other two sessions were long distance; one for someone preparing for a scary medical procedure and the other for a young mother with advanced metastatic cancer…truly the “stuff of life”. The woman who received knee surgery just reported to me today that her surgeon told her she was already two weeks ahead of the average post-operative knee surgery patient. Yipeee! I know many of you who have taken the practice of HT into your heart and soul know what an honor it feels like to help create sacred space for people who are experiencing so many and diverse life situations that can benefit from intentional healing energy. What a privilege to be a holy witness to someone else’s significant life events and to be able to hold space for them…

While I embrace my role as Program Director and am honored to serve in a leadership role, I know that it is my personal practice of Healing Touch that keeps me grounded in my administrative and teaching roles. Each time I am with someone who opens her/himself to HT in a session with me, I never know what is going to happen. Occasionally the results are dramatic and exciting, but more often, the shifts are subtle and sweet, often with the client or myself not quite able to put into words the peace, healing or energetic changes that were perceived at some indescribable level.

Lastly, I encourage you to “do the work” of self care, of honoring, respecting and loving yourself. As you attend to your own healing, you will be a more finely tuned instrument of healing for others… and all the healing we do will naturally ripple out into our world with visible and invisible blessings.

Joyfully, Cynthia
